AP physics is one of the most confusing classes I have ever experienced. I really want to drop out and switch to another AP class., but I’m not sure if the AP contract allows me. I just don’t think I’m a math/science kind of guy. Maybe there are a few branches of science that appeal to me, but honestly, I’d rather go with the humanities. I already have AP Lang and Accelerated Math (Honors Common Core/Weighted course), but I really want to show the colleges that I can take the rigor of at least 3 weighted classes.
So what should I do?
Drop the AP physics, or stay with it and most likely get a C or lower (probs 80% chance). Try to switch for another AP like psychology or physio, hopefully (I doubt my school will let me, however), or simply just drop down to regular physics. Unfortunately, I’m completely lost in what my teacher is trying to teach. Like I can’t even tell how speed values would differ from velocity values. I most likely bombed the first quiz and test, and when I go home I avoid doing physics homework. Man, I’m in a pickle…
Again, I do want to have at least 2 AP’s to show the colleges, and apply for the AP scholarship.
P.S. my course load for Junior year: Cross Country Practice, AP Physics, Spanish 5/6, World Drumming, Accelerated Math, US History, and AP Lang.
Thanks!
What about AP Biology? It requires basic level math and includes many fun experiments; biology (to me) wasn’t really confusing at all, plus if you’ve taken it before, it should be really easy.
If you are really struggling in the class, drop it and switch to AP Psych. AP Psych is known to be a relatively easy AP, and it is probably enjoyable.
Also, there’s no such thing as an “AP contract” unless your school made it up. They shouldn’t be able to force you to stay in classes that are too difficult for you.
Take regular physics: most flagships and top colleges expect you to have one year each of bio, chem, physics (at any level, even regular), + 1 science class of your choice.
Are you taking Physics 1 or Physics c? (Physics C is the second level of physics and is hardcore.)
Seriously just tell your teacher or counselor, because if you think your school won’t let you switch they are the only ones who can confirm it. But if you don’t like physics and can’t do the class just switch to another science if you can.
Ignore the person who said you need all the sciences. MIT needs that for science majors you don’t need to take those to go to a good college especially if you aren’t even interested in majoring in science as you said you like humanities better. Good luck!
The OP originally stated he wasn’t much of a science guy, but I see where you are coming from, AP Biology may work @CoolCakes I think you should drop to whatever class makes you feel COMFORTABLE to do work and not avoid homework. It is more important to colleges that you show good work ethic and understand the skills that pertain under certain subjects, try regular physics as @MYOS1634 suggested and if you succeed in that, you have senior year to try again.
