dropping below half-time on two consecutive semesters, enter repayment?

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding the grace period. I will use an example. Let’s suppose I enroll half-time during Spring semester and then I drop to below half-time during this same semester.

I then enroll half-time for summer semester and again, after a few days, I drop to below half-time.

Is my grace period restablished every time I enroll at least half-time within a 6-month period, even if I drop below half-time during two consecutive semesters? Thank you for helping with this question.

Your school reports actual enrollment dates. If you are not enrolled at least half time for a period of 6 consecutive months, your loans will enter repayment. As soon as you begin to attend school while enrolled at least half time, the deferment clock resets (so if it hasn’t been 6 months & you begin classes at least half time, you won’t go into repayment). Caution: Once you go into repayment, you will have used your grace period on your loans … meaning that the next time you drop below half time (or leave your program or graduate), your loans will go into repayment immediately.
