My school's newspaper is written during the school day as an actual class period, and because of scheduling conflicts, there is a good chance I might not be able to continue on as an Editor. Would this be a significant issue for colleges if I've shown significant time commitment to it in the past?

I don’t think it is ideal if you have committed to it and reached a leadership position. Talk to your GC and see what can be done. I had a similar issue last year with yearbook and I ended up taking health online which let me take yearbook (often there is a fairly simple way to fit a class in).

I had to drop out of our newspaper senior year because of schedule conflicts (I could have chosen to stay but I thought Japanese was the better choice to keep). I took AP English. I got in to Georgetown.

It’s okay to drop it if you’re going to take an AP or high level English in place of it. If you’re going into like regular English 12, that’s a mistake.
