DS'21 and pass/fail grades

Sorry if I’ve missed another post on this topic. I’ve looked but haven’t seen one directly.

My DS’21 may be getting pass/fail grades for semester 2 (this semester) of Junior year in high school because of the transition to online learning (which is optional and not graded) by his California public high school.
Has anyone seen any definitive statements about high school’s going to pass/fail for this semester?
How will universities handle this in terms of GPA calculation when applications are submitted in the Fall?
Is there anything I should be doing to help him get additional online classes which do offer letter grades? (His high school does not allow outside coursework to count toward their high school diploma, but outside courses would still benefit his college applications).
Maybe I’m too early in thinking about this but we are in week two of the school closure and our governor says to expect the schools will not reopen until Summer or Fall.

Yes, you are worrying about this too soon. No one knows what they are doing yet! The colleges will figure something out. This time next year, a whole bunch of students with a semester full of Pass/Fail will be getting their admissions offers from Fill-In-Name-Here-U.
