Dual Degree CAS and Wharton

I am currently a high school junior. I am considering applying to UPenn next year and if accepted would like to get a dual degree between the CAS (probably biochem) and Wharton (I’m thinking health care management/policy). I want to run my own medical practice in the future so I think that both of these would be important enough for me to major in (instead of minoring in one). However, when I go to apply to UPenn, would which school would I apply to? Would I be better off applying to Wharton so that if accepted, I can be relatively sure I can get into the CAS or should I apply to CAS and worry about Wharton later?

There is a Coordinated Dual-Degree Programs

ROY AND DIANA VAGELOS PROGRAM IN LIFE SCIENCES AND MANAGEMENT

Apply to Wharton and add on CAS if you really want to load up on classes or stay a fifth year. The other way around is much harder.

Thank you. Also, I have read that doing a “vocational” undergrad (business) might put me at a disadvantage when applying to med school. Although business as a pre med is rather uncommon, I don’t see how it would affect me negatively. Any opinions?

And yes, it does seem like a weird combo, and it has the potential to affect med school apps negatively. However, with the right recs and way to approach it, it doesn’t have to hurt your chances at all (it may even make you stand out in some cases). In fact most people who go to Med school after wharton undergrad are from LSM due to the very nature of the program.
