Dual Degree in Engineering and Business

Hi everyone! I'm new on this forum, and want to ask for some opinions on the dual degree program at Wash U.

Well first of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Wei, I'm currently studying in Shanghai (Shanghai High School International Division). I'm Chinese, grew up in South Africa. I'll probably be joining class of 2010 at Wash U (Narrowed my list down to Wash U dual degree and Rice Engineering, but so far Wash U seems more attractive).

Anyway, do any of you have any thoughts on Wash U's Engineering/Business dual degree program? Pros and cons, reasons why I should attend (over Rice, which I hear has better engineering), how many people take dual degree, how many make it, is it worth it...?

Thank you for your opinions!

Hey you're from Shanghai? Cool, im Chinese, but im living in japan right now and im going to WashU nxt yr too! well, from what I've heard WashU's engineering's not that great. And did you check in the other double major thread? They are saying that WashU's really flexible in that matter and it seems that it's super common to do double major (some are even considering triple). which school r u attending? Olin? ArtSci? ...?

ok, so i guess i'll just let everyone know that i'm Chinese too. not that it matters. multiple majors and/or degrees is very common at WashU, due to the few/non-existent general education requirements. so i guess in the end, it makes the price tag worth it for people in the United States if you can get 2 degrees for double the price of a public university.

you guys have got pretty interesting backgrounds; it'll be cool meeting you guys in the fall, if you guys choose WashU. it'll be interesting to compare our experiences of being Chinese outside of our homelands (my parents are from Taiwan).

i checked, and yes, there is a Chinese Student Association (CSA). i have no doubt it's an awesome group, because WashU's got part of the cream of the crop of Chinese people!

btw, my name's Ezra.

hey Ezra, hope we'll meet in August!

Sup wei. I'm Frank. Dang, you got into Wash U? Good job. You know anything about their physics/economics?

Funny seeing you here. Small world.

I usually hear more about Washington's premed, but i reckon physics and economics are up there as well. For a school of Washington's caliber you can't really go wrong.

Where are you inclined towards going to right now? WUSTL? Any scholarships at WUSTL?

No scholarships, unfortunately. I've got UChicago, Berkeley, WUSTL, and Northwestern right now that I'm considering. Also theres a slim chance i go to Carnegie Mellon. How are your options? I must say, though, a dual degree in engineering and business sounds pretty tough. God knows engineering is tough to take by itself, you sure you want to add more to that courseload? And Rice has, by all accounts, a better engineering program than WUSTL, which is not as oriented towards applied sciences. BTW, if you don't mind, PM me where everyone else at shs got into.
