Dual Enrollment Question?

I had a question about dual enrollment. I am an FLVS student going into my junior year. What is your opinion on doing virtual school and dual enrollment at the same time. My mom believes that it would be a good idea to get some college credits but I have read that it would be tough on my schedule considering that virtual school takes time to do and I also was going to start to volunteer at my local elementary school this upcoming school year. I am going to go see my guidance counselor soon and ask her also, but was just looking for other opinions.

Thanks!

Not exactly sure what virtual school entails, but I have a personal anecdote.

This past semester, I took on one class less than a full courseload at high school (block schedule). In addition, I took one online class, and two dual enrollment classes. Needless to say, I was busy. I wouldn’t recommend taking more than one dual enrollment course at a time, although it sounds as if virtual school would lend a lot of flexibility. I would suggest talking to your counselor, as you have mentioned.

Best of luck!

Depending on what you take, it can allow flexibility. If you’re doing virtual school full time like myself, it allows some flexibility but not a ton. If you get a couple weeks behind pace, you get a threatening email from the administration which can be annoying. You have the flexibility of being able to leave town whenever you like and bring your work with you. If I was to do dual enrollment, I would lose that privilege.

May I ask what dual enrollment courses you’re taking and if you can suggest any that might not involve a ton of my time?

Thanks again!
