Florida Virtual School? Worth it?

Okay, so i'm relatively new to CC but I figured I had a question my school's conselor won't be able to help me with.

So I'm a junior in high school in the state of Florida. I was wondering if it was worth it, the summer before my senior year, to sign up for some online classes via Florida Virtual School. I don't need to make up a credit, nor finish a foreign language, science, math, etc. credit but instead I thought it would be interesting and beneficial to take interesting classes my school doesn't offer, considering it's extra classes and what not.

What do you guys think? I few of my friends took a few classes and it seemed relatively easy. Also, what classes would you recommend? Latin sounds interesting, maybe an interesting science?

If you’re going to take anything on FLVS, take an AP class or else it’ll be the easiest class of your life.

I live in florida and I’m a sophomore, and by May 1, 2013 will have taken 5 FLVS classes. (3 ap, 2 non-ap).

Wouldn’t it be too late to sign up for say, AP Human Geo or something on flvs if it’s already December?

I really don’t like FLVS. You can always try it and then drop it if you don’t like it. (I think there’s a 2 week period to drop without a penalty.)

So yay or nay? I would probably not take an AP level course as my current school schedule is demanding in itself. What are interesting classes that aren’t absurdly easy?

You have to complete all FLVS ap classes by April 30 to do the AP exam. You have plenty of time to take AP human geo, I heard it’s a short class. Also, it’s a 4 week grace period.

I really like FLVS, well the classes i’ve taken (no aps yet)
They do take drive and ambition since sometimes the work will be extremely tedius.
All in all for something that gets you ahead/helps your gpa and its free? I think its a steal, especially for APs that aren’t offered at your school it saves you the 89 dollars you would pay for the ap exam

Which classes do you guys reccomend? Marine Science Honors? Phsyics I? What?

I’ve taken Algebra 2 and Intro to Computer programming, and am in AP Micro Econ, AP stats, AP Calc ab.

I liked computer programming. Impossible to not get an A in I feel, yet it’s a lot of work. AP Micro economics seems cool so far. But, I feel like AP Psych would be a cool class. If you want an easy AP class, then take AP human.

As I’m about to sign up for a class, it asks for semesters 1 or 2. Can you clarify this? What’s the difference?

You can choose to do one or two semesters. I have to do HOPE and signed up for one semester for the Spring, and I’ll take the second during the next Fall or Spring semester.

essentially that is mainly for people who failed A semester of the course, or in your case if you wanted to do a semester during spring break and another semester spring break.
Doesn’t really matter much from what i can tell

Definitely think FLVS is a great choice is you want an easy boost on the GPA, or you can find some more challenging classes obviously with ap’s as above posters have said

So if I want to take the full class, but obviously at my own pace, hopefully quickly, I choose both semesters correct?

yes, or else you will only have access to semester 1 and then you will have to wait to be placed in the class again to start semester 2 at a whole other request

The next available date to begin class is in Feburary, why can’t I start as soon as tomorrow?

Do you recommend Latin 1? Is it difficult or monotonous, dull, etc?

You can’t start whenever because they have to place you in a class with a teacher etc. it takes some time especially depending on the class.
