Dual Enrollment

Hello! I am a parent of a 4.5 GPA 10th grade student who is dreaming of attending Harvard pre-med. She will be taking dual enrollment classes, but was wondering if it makes a difference for Harvard from what university they are taken. Can anyone who has been accepted to Harvard (or any Ivy League school) share where they took their dual enrollment classes? Thanks

I took no dual enrollment classes.

Harvard (and its peers) will look at strength of transcript (amongst many other things). If there are sufficient offerings in the HS, DE is not needed. If the HS has a DE program with a particular college, then that is fine for admissions…

On another subject, your daughter should not be dreaming of any college with a 95% rejection rate and she should be aware that her undergraduate college will play little role in med school admissions.

Most people have limited options where to take dual enrollment classes. Also, unless you are doing them online, you have to physically get there. If you have a choice, I would put them in this order. 1) Four-year University, 2) Community College, and 3) Taught at HS w/ HS teacher.
Some other unsolicited advice. Don’t get tunnel vision for one school. As the parent, think about finances. Don’t overestimate the value of DE classes. If they are above what is offered at the HS (e.g. MV Calc) that is fine. If it is a high school level class (e.g. Pre Calc) that doesn’t offer any advantage unless you are at a poor preforming HS. If you are at a top HS it is likely a step down.

As a pre-med, she should be sure to earn A or A+ grades in college / dual enrollment courses taken while in high school, because those will be included in college records and GPAs for applying to medical school.
