Duke 2014 Hopefuls!

Thanks FlaPops. I may end up in Tuscany. There are worse fates…

Here’s to hoping that this weekend, as well as MONDAY, will go verrrrry fast!
I’m wondering, since it’s 6pm EST…5pm CST?

^Yep. And 3pm PST!

( : School on Monday will be the longest day of my life.

Almost the weekend! This weekend I have a whole day of NHS on saturday, so that will keep me occupied! What about everyone else? How are y’all going to pass this weekend?

I’m going to church tonight, so I should be back at around 11. I’m going to go to sleep until 2 PM the next day, then wake up, eat breakfast, and go on the Internet for two hours. Then I’ll attempt to get some homework done (going on random Internet sites every two minutes) and fail epically until 6. I’ll eat dinner, then laze around, and exercise a bit from 8-9. Possibly fill out a scholarship application. Then on Sunday, I’m going to church and won’t be back until 4-ish (my brother has Chinese school after church so I stay at the library while he goes to class). When I get home, I’ll cram all the hw I had that I didn’t do and hopefully finish by 10.

I’m on spring break, so ALL of my friends are out of town. I’m passing the time by re-reading the Harry Potter books. Love them and they always consume all my time (the perfect thing for the final few days of waiting before the rest of the decisions come out) :)

I have school on Monday, Spanish lit independent study after school, then I’ll probs stay at school until getting picked up at 4:30 (sucks not being able to drive), going to a pasta dinner fundraiser until 9:30, then checking my decision/doing hw :(

Wait I just realized I won’t be able to get home to get the mail (Georgetown decisions! Unless I get it tomorrow)

Wow! We all have normal high school teenager lives.

On Monday, I go to school until 3:30 (CST), and I’m going to go eat at a Thai restaurant (YUMMM) with one of my friends till 5! Then, checking decision, calling up best friends,

posting suicidal Facebook status as a quote from Frankenstein (“Cursed, cursed creator! Why do I live? Why, in that instant, did I not extinguish the spark of existence which you had so wantonly bestowed?”–REJECTED:[ )

sounds about right. :D

Just for passing the time: in the admissions decision page, when was your decision was submitted?

If a guy gets in to UChicago and Northwestern what does that mean for his chances at Duke?

A. Nothing. It’s all arbitrary
B. Nothing. Good schools in Chicago are different from good schools in NC
C. You’ve got a decent chance.
D. Equivocation…no real response.
E. 6:00 pm Monday

Please advise.

B. Although I’m in your situation and while I wish the true answer were C, I somehow think Chicago and Duke are looking for different types of students (if their student bodies are any indication).

pd: I think you’re right but I still can’t figure it out. You got in to the #8 rated undergrad program on the US News list (that looks for intellectual applicants who have a track record of high-level thinking and studying) AND you got in to a highly respected private university (#12) that looks for well-rounded, high achievers who have done a lot in high school. But somehow there’s a really good (#10) highly regarded school in Durham that is looking for somebody else? Who? Describe the applicant who gets in to NW and UChicago but doesn’t get in to Duke…

Good job by the way on getting in to UChicago and NW. Great schools…
