Duke Basketball History

How well do Dukies know their Duke basketball history. i.e. do they all know who Grant Hill or Shane Battier is.

Oh my god are you kidding me? I was RAISED on Duke basketball.

Haha that's good to know. I'm a huge sports fan. I was thinking about putting a basketball reference in my essay to a past duke player so that's why I wanted to know.

Who the fark wouldn't know who Grant Hill was?

My mom knows who Grant Hill was! (Only because he's a good piano player, but still.)

ha bluedevil, I was definitely raised on Duke basketball as well, and I would sure hope that all Dukies know who Battier and Hill are.

Oh we know our Duke Basketball history. And trust me, freshmen out in K-ville learn it very quickly throughout the basketball season. There are some students who know every tidbit of information about the program. Grant Hill and Shane Battier are legends.

yeah, i was raised on that.

college59~if you are writing an essay for Duke about your love of Blue Devil basketball, you might want to know that we were told by several college counselors that our son should NEVER mention Duke basketball in his admissions essays to Duke. They already know that many of the kids who are applying are anxious to be Cameron Crazies. They want to read an essay that reflects other things about you. Good luck on admissions!

I used a reference to Duke basketball in my essay (saying it's how I remembered about Duke and such after seeing them when I was little) and I'm here... But I would be careful because I'm sure it's overused.

Although with the attendance at this year's games going to games should be an admissions requirement.

"Although with the attendance at this year's games going to games should be an admissions requirement."

What is that supposed to mean, gcards?

Whoops must have gotten really distracted...

I was jokingly saying a requirement for admissions should be going to basketball games if one is accepted and matriculates. Upperclassmen are saying that game attendance is way down this year and we'll lose seats to grad students. Part of the problem seems to be direct at freshmen, but I'm not really sure.

I'm a junior here, and I will agree with you gcards1 that attendance is down a little but this year. But there are really valid reasons for this that I think a lot of people are losing sight of. After today we just had 4 home games within the last two weeks of the semester (something very unusual). It's a real lot to ask to get it packed with an ACC atmosphere while so many people are cramming and stressing over finals. Our reading period is basically a weekend, so study time is a premium in December. That "2 hour study break" argument is very simplified as anyone who's been to a game knows that you are mentally and physically exhausted after a game (I know I usually am) and you can't just pick up where you left off. I am positive that it will pick up next semester when new classes start. As for the freshmen, I think they are dedicated (sometimes too dedicated - did you see them line up two days early for the Georgetown game - In retrospect a good choice - that game was awesome). Personally, I think the freshmen are too anxious and not deferring to the upperclassmen to learn about the traditions of the Cameron Crazies (Stay for the alma mater after the game freshmen!!!). I think I went on a bunch of tangents, but overall just give it to the spring semester, and the night we beat Carolina will be beyond amazing. Back to studying. Good luck on finals.

if any duke student doesnt know who battier, hill or laettner is, they should be expelled

battier-- most charges taken in duke history??
laettner--the SHOT heard round the world from the elbow vs kentucky!
hill-- cmon it's grant hill

howd i do? lol too bad im too young to have witnessed laettner live but i saw the game on espn classic!!!!
