DUKE-"Burglary" High

My son is going to apply his dream school DUKE, I found DUKE with high "Burglary" compare other silmilar school (from http://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/?q=duke&s=all&id=198419#crime). Dose anyone concerning this security issue?

I just compared Duke’s incident rate to Stanford’s burglary rate, which is higher. The problem is that many college students leave their dorm rooms unlocked and come back to find their laptops stolen. A student with common sense will be fine.

I tend to agree with siliconvalleymom - college campus crime statistics tend to be more a reflection of students’ tendency to report (as opposed to ignore) crimes rather than a true indicator of the incidence rate of crimes.

Common sense goes a long way towards preventing crime on campuses, but unfortunately, this is too often in short supply in a group of young adults. Lock your room - even if just going to the bathroom; never set your smart phone down in an unsecured area; use your Duke card so you never need cash; etc.

Out of curiosity, which peer and local institutions did you compare Duke’s numbers with?

Compare with:
UPenn:
[College Navigator - University of Pennsylvania](<a href=“College Navigator - University of Pennsylvania”>College Navigator - University of Pennsylvania)

Rice:

Emory:
