Duke ED Class of 2016

wow, I’m sorry guys! The lady just said “If I’m not mistaken everyone will know by Monday.”

will know our decision or know of the date that decisions will be released?

haha…giving out dates to this group will generate a flurry of posts…all are anxious. As I tell my son though…try to keep it all in perspective.

I really don’t know guys. Y’all should be obnoxious like me and call them :D

I understand the perspective thing. I understand that there could be far worse things, but in my tiny ignorant world, not getting into Duke is the worst possible outcome…

Maybe I should call admissions tomorrow and see if they also give me an estimate of Monday…

personally I hope it’s later than monday. i’m not ready for the decision.

Please do Claireberry!! I wish it was Friday, so I could focus this weekend…

I know this helps for me, I don’t know about you guys, but our decisions were made probably weeks ago. We’re already either accepted, deferred, or rejected. It won’t do any good to worry and stress right now–what’s done is done. haha this might be really twisted but it kind of calms me down.

I’m banking on deferred…What type of people do you think get rejected?

i hope it is monday! might as well get it over with and move on to rd apps :)

I am 99% sure that I am going to get deferred. I would be so grateful to be accepted, but it seems extremely unlikely. I also don’t think that I’ll get flat-out rejected either, but it seems more probable than getting accepted.

i just want the email so we can quit the guessing games

I’m also guessing I get deferred. Does anyone know what percentage of applicants usually get deferred? What kind of applicants do they usually reject ED?

I’m just going to take a stab in the dark, and maybe those with more experience (bluedog, SBR, etc) can enlighten me. I think Duke is one of those schools, where like the Ivy’s, they get their share of poorly qualified applicants.

Think about it this way- there are so many college basketball fans that are high schoolers in the US. Duke is among the top as one of the most famous sports schools, and is also a great school academically and makes an appealing place to apply. I’m not demeaning these sports fans, they’re good kids and all, but when it comes to the admissions process they don’t stand a chance with an 1800 SAT or something. This is very similar to a sizeable percentage of the applicant pool without a prayer of a hope applying to Harvard, Yale, etc.

I think these kids make up a decent chunk of the applicants who are denied, both ED and in RD. They’ve always loved Duke watching them win NCAA titles with the Cameron Crazies, and want to be right there, but lack the qualifications academically.

Wait so they’re releasing decisions on monday?! fuhhhh

Guys, don’t get your hopes up for the prompt sending of that email telling us the date.
Brown released their date during thanksgiving break and their decisions being released next tuesday. On the other hand, Columbia released their date today and it’s date is this coming Thursday… talk about late notice.

Because our fates are for the most part decided at this point, lets just hope that decisions come out soon than later (MONDAYYYYY :P)

I’m probs gonna be deferred though :(

for the past 5 years, theyve released it at least a day early. Three years ago it was the 11th, two years ago the 10th, last year the 14th. Its anyone’s best guess when it will be

If I had to make a guess, I’d say it would be on the 13th, but you’ll get an email 2-3 days before letting you know how to log on and such with the date included

I cannot offer much insight into the types of people who are rejected or deferred but there are some data out there about percentages.

From my year (2005): roughly 1500 ED applications, approximately 1/3 accepted, 1/3 deferred, 1/3 rejected

From 2009 ED:
Total completed ED applications = ~1900
Accepted = 602
Deferred = 713
Rejected = 609

From 2010 ED:
Total completed ED applications = ~2200
Accepted = 645
Deferred = 695
Rejected/Withdrawn = 887

I think that chances are Duke will likely keep the accepted/deferred numbers in that ballpark for this year also.

Edit: this Duke Chronicle article from Jan 2010 states that typically 10% of deferred students are accepted during RD round.

Just an FYI

Do they always post decisions on a weekday, or have they done it on a weekend in the past?

usually weekdays
