Thanks so much!!

I'm not familiar with some as I am others, but I think have a great shot at Duke. I think you are in Vanderbilt as well!

I think you stand a very good chance with ED. Make sure your recs and essays are top notch as well, and you will be fine. Your test scores are good (better than mine, and I'll be at Duke in the fall), you have a lot of awards, and I'm sure that all of the research opportunities you have had will come in handy in the admissions process. Best of luck to you.

just curious... what were your scores like to get into duke, seahorse?

let's see... I got a 1370 on the SAT (710 math, 660 verbal), 730 writing sat II (which gives me unofficially a 2100 on the "new" SAT), 760 Bio-M, 730 math Ic, and 580 us history (I have since improved my knowledge of us history, but not soon enough to retake the sat 2 and submit it). For APs, I submitted to them a 5 on bio and 4s on calc AB and music theory. Nothing special, but I think that my essay and my strong performance during the first semester of senior year helped a lot. My Duke representative actually included a letter to me in my admissions packet, saying congratulations and that my 5 A's first semester really 'sealed the deal.'

any hooks or URM status or legacies or anything like that seahorse?
but overall very impressive stats. Congrats on getting in.

Thanks. I'm a white male from Vermont, so no URM status. I actually applied ED but was deferred. My guidance counselor really kicked it up a notch at this point. I got two more recommendations from artsy teachers (the drama club director and the music teacher) because music and acting were my two biggest activities throughout high school. I also made a CD of some songs I had been working on... although I sent it in pretty late and I don't think anyone ever listened to it. My guidance counselor also contacted my Duke representative to see what the deal was and what I could do to better my chances. It was very comforting because I felt that the rep was on my side. He told my counselor about what had gone on with my application during the ED round, what the strong points were, and how it had just been an act of chance that I was not chosen for admission. I'm not quite sure if I answered your question fully, so please don't hesitate to reiterate or ask about something else... I'm an open book.

I think you have a really good chance at Duke ED, as well as any of the schools on your list. Your courseload is rigorous, and your research/community service activities are great.

Just curious-what book award did you get?
