Rank is good (thought a 4.2 is a bit low), and you know that you need to retake your SAT/ACTs, so your biggest problem is is an overwhelmingly unimpressive list of extracurricular activities. As an unhooked candidate, I’d say that Duke is a significant reach.

^ I agree. You have very little ECs, and for a school like Duke good ECs are a must. Test scores are good though. I’d say it would be a fairly high reach. Good luck.

He may just be quickly mentioning his ECs. We do not know the full extent of his participation nor the context in which he functions, so it is unfair to simply say “your ECs suck” because he didn’t give us a giant explanation.

On the other hand, from what you’ve given us, you have an average chance (average for a school like Duke, meaning a low chance). We will never know your application fully- perhaps you will come through as a very interesting individual through your essays- but from what we know, Duke will be a reach for you.

Your scores aren’t your problem, your ECs are. Maybe you just didn’t describe them well to us, but they seem fairly average unless you have good accomplishments in them. 4.22is NOT low, so don’t freak out about that, but getting it up can’t hurt. Good luck, and I’d say reach, but if you present yourself well, have major accomplishments in your ECs, and good teacher recs, then there’s a possibility.
