Duke extracurriculars?

Hello,

I couldn't find a previous thread on this topic, but I was rather curious if there are any academic extracurricular organization/club that Duke is fairly well known for.

In particular, science related or english related ones?

Thanks. :)

Duke Chronicle is one of the best papers in the country. Stories regularly nationally reprinted by other schools. Rose to fame also during the Lax Hoax and lots of its reporters were on national TV, and its online popularity rose a great deal.

Thats English related.

There's a ton though, the Chron is one I know alot about because my frosh roommate is a big shot writer for them now.

ROTC! Especially if you are looking for a way to pay for school AND have a job when you graduate :-D (as a former Navy Reservist, just doing my part to find a replacement or two)

Okay, thanks to you both!

Though, I've heard that generally, The Chronicle isn't very reliable (prints a lot of wrong information).

Is that true?

if you are referring to anything you have heard about the chronicle after the lax hoax...then thats not really a fair claim to make. NO newspaper in the country printed "correct" information during the height of the scandal. its also run by students, not professional journalists so of course mistakes will be made. however, i think the chronicle does a really great job reporting campus news on a daily basis with consistency

Oh, okay that's great!

I was actually not referring to after lax, instead from asking some of grand seniors from my high school that are now at Duke.

In general, I think the Chronicle offers consistent and fair coverage, though its op-eds can be somewhat frivolous at times. When the paper does report an error, its editors do a good job of addressing it in the next day's issue.
