There are Plan G, H and I. There are not much difference in terms of price. It is hard to imagine what each plan means. Would anyone explain? Thank you.

There is really no difference except the number of food points, which you can add on at any time from bursar. I chose the lowest level and added food points as needed.

In a nutshell:

1) All plans get the same number of prepaid all-you-can-eat meals at the marketplace (12 a week, 5 breakfasts, 7 dinners/brunches)

2) The difference is the number of “food points” which is basically a debit account in which one food point = $1. These food points are used for food at eateries across campus (basically everywhere besides the marketplace) and for ordering deliveries from selected off campus restaurants.

3) Food points can be replenished at any time either online (charged to bursar account) or in person at the dukecard office (cash, debit card, or bursar account)

4) Unused food points from fall are carried over to spring and unused points from spring are refunded according to the following policy:

the first 100 points are completely refunded (1 point = $1

every point after the first 100, 50% of the money is refunded

5) Prepaid meals are not provided in the plan during extended school holidays such as fall break, thanksgiving, winter break, and spring break. Food points, however, will still be available.

Disclaimer: the above were policies for my freshmen meal plan which was 4 years ago. Things might be a bit different now but somehow I doubt it.

Suggestion: all freshmen plans are the same anyways, just buy the lowest plan and add food points when you need them.

Where do you usually eat with the food points? To be sure they don’t expect you to always eat at Chick Fil A and Panda Express for every meal because then at Duke it wouldn’t be the freshman 15, it would be more like the freshman 50.

You eat with food points for lunch and all but two meals on the weekends. Near the end you probably won’t use up your 12 meals at the MP anyway so you’ll supplement with your food points.

And no, you won’t always be eating chick-fil-a and panda because there are better eateries on and off campus.
