Duke NO 5

Do you think that now that DUke is 5, acceptance rates will drop and many more people will apply.

I plan applying ED and I would like input.

huh? It was no. 5 last year too. It experienced a surge in applications for the class of 2009 -- who knows I would predict an increase this year. shrug

yea, its rank hasnt changed at all, so i doubt that would have any effect on admissions. Additionally, those who work in the academic worlds are known but having nothing but disdain for those rankings. If you take a close look at them from a statistical standpoint, they are completely flawed. No one takes them seriously except for kids and over-zealous parents wondering which school their kid should apply to. The only thing that might affect admission rates is the fact that my class (the upcoming freshman) at duke are over-enrolled a bit due to the expansion of the Pratt School. So, i suppose engineering acceptance rates (which are historically just slightly higher than the Trinity school) will drop, probably to about equal with Trinity.

Its always been in the top 10, I don't think it will change much - I think Trinity has a 20% acceptance rate and Pratt a 26% acceptance rate

They say that peer assesment is taken much more seriously in the academic world than the actual rankings...Duke is given a 4.6 out of 5.0, while HPYSM have a 4.9, CalTech has a 4.7, Dartmouth has a 4.5 I think, Penn a 4.5, and so on

"If you take a close look at them from a statistical standpoint, they are completely flawed."- Chuckleybob, can u explain why this is? I have heard that the criteria they use for ranking the schools is somewhat questionable, but no where have I ever seen that the rankings themselves are completely flawed.
