We all know that Duke happens to be ranked significantly higher, but what sets these schools apart- how do they compare when it comes to academics? Socially?

I had a lengthy post on this for duke poly sci vs. georgetown sfs... check it out, some of it may apply even if you're not a poli sci major.

Duke seems like the obvious choice in this match. I visited Georgetown over Duke's fall break last semester when I stayed with a friend in Bethesda. Georgetown the town was amazing, but Georgetown the university was completely lackluster. The campus (not the city) was ugly, and I went into one of the dorm rooms. The only thing that it reminded me of was a dungeon - it was cramped with cinderblock walls. Also, my friend's friend told us almost right away that she regrets choosing Georgetown (she chose it large because of their international relations program). The only advantages I see to Georgetown over Duke are the town itself and its proximity to DC. Duke on the otherhand outdoes Georgetown in almost every other area. In the end though, choose the one where you fit in the best.

Though not a definitive system, they certainly shed a general light on which universities are superior academically and have smarter students than other ones

A complex quantitative comparison of the two universities yields the following results: Georgetown 87, Duke 84.

Hahahaha - OK, as a diehard Duke basketball fan, even I have to say that was really funny. Although I think I may have to hate you just on principle.

January '07 in Durham, should be fun...
