Can anyone tell me what the party life at Duke is? How many nights a week do students usually go out? Is there a lot of drinking? Do most people like to be social or are most students kind of nerdy and laid back?
During the first weeks of freshmen year to make “connections” and seem cool a lot of people will go out to parties, even students who don’t drink or hate parties. However, by the time you’re a sophomore or a junior, you eventually concede that if you want to graduate with a decent GPA, going to Shooters every weekend is impossible even if you actually like the sweaty sensation of dancing in a human sauna. It depends, of course you’ll find people who are nerdy and love learning and really get involved in research, but of course you’ll find people who want to seem “cool” in their pretentious way and whom you wonder how they got into Duke in the first place.
This is a very judgmental statement to make about people who have the audacity to be different than you. Just because someone enjoys partying does not mean they are dumb or unworthy of being at Duke.
@Dimnarion Tell that to the junior during O-week who told me that I needed to drink to be cool at Duke as he handed me a Keystone light to shotgun.
As a beer drinker, I can say that “Keystone Light” and “pretentious” don’t ever go together.
True, but you’ll never see champagne and pate being handed out at normal college parties, at least not at Duke
I don’t think that type of behavior is okay either. My point was that people should respect each other’s choices.
