Yeah I would like to know about Wilson as well. Thanks!

I am in a Wilson triple. Just one more person who wants to know whether it sucks or not.
For others in Wilson, here is a floorplan: wilson-all

D is assigned to double in Aycock. Anyone else?

Would orgo and econ 55 be doable first semester? I kind of wanted a second opinion, because I hear they’re both pretty intense.

i was wondering if it was at all manageable to have this schedule first semester?
math 103, chem 151, eng 53, and french 100. i know math 103 and chem 151 are a few of the hardest classes at duke, but i heard the curve for chem 151 is incredible. is it worth taking chem 151 or should i drop back a level in chem? thanks!

incredible? I wouldn’t go that far. Better than most classes? Probably.

Incredible would be when my prof tried to curve our Chem 151L section to an A-. Unfortunately our grades as a whole really couldn’t justify it lol not that he didn’t try. And no, it wasn’t a freshmen orgo class.

I’m asking for a friend of mine: Can anyone tell me/her about Brown Hall for the dorms?

so do you think it would be a better idea not to do chem 151 with math 103?

^No way looool. The orgo curve is not “incredible.”. Instead of curving to a B-, it’s curved to a B. It’s not that much better

I’d like to second the ‘How is Aycock?’ question, haha.

Aycock is very nice, typical dorm, moderately sized rooms with large closet, hardwood floors in rooms, carpeted hallways. Laundry in the basement, bus stop literally right outside the door. 1 study room per floor, common room on first. 3 floors total, guys on one side, girls on the other, no doors separating the two halves except on first floor. Pretty standard fare.

Our son is an Aycock grad. They played a lot of sports “against” other dorms…isn’t Jarvis the exact replica of Aycock across from it? Still very tight with a score of people from Aycock. Like many dorms in East, it is a human sized dorm (no cold ugly concrete jungle skyscrapers with elevators at Duke thank heavens.) ie…I think three stories high, very cozy. Might be four but I think only three…which is what makes East feel like a private and intimate liberal arts college in the evenings.
Son got one of the less desirable rooms and it was still quite nice as all have two closets and original wood floors and hall baths. His closet was fine…bigger than at some colleges, but many Aycock rooms actually have quite spacious pairs of closets. Room sizes do vary in the East dorms.
Furnishings just middle of the road…room for a mini fridge and micro on top if you want to buy them…he also had room for a little couch from Pier One because he lofted…folded out to be a twin bed…and lots of people borrowed it for guests.
Most important accessory…window fan and a supplemental fan in the room to pull out the afternoon and evening heat. No A/C but some of the study halls and community rooms have A/C
East Campus is really a very happy place. We bought postcards on Ebay of Aycock from early in the 20th century and it was a hoot reading the messages and seeing photos of only men gathered in front of Aycock. One memorable message was from a guy from Pennsylvania to his high school teacher…“got here in the Model T after a long journey and I write to report that I passed the entry exams and have been accepted by Trinity College.” At a later date, East campus served only females…so…get to know the history of your dorms. The namesake of Aycock is a controversial historical figure.
Enjoy your new life at Duke.

Does anyone know about Giles?

oh i must have heard something different about that class haha. so would math 103, chem 43, egr 53, and french 100s be manageable?

That would be a manageable schedule, I took something similar my first semester only I took, chem 23, egr53, math 103, and chinese 170. Idk how similar chinese 170 is to french 100s in terms of workload, but it should make too much of a difference.

One thing though, you don’t have to automatically drop down to 43 from 151. If you feel that you want to try it out or something you can sign up for it then drop down to 43 if you feel overwhelmed. The chemistry department even allows drop/add beyond the standard university-wide drop/add period of 2 weeks.

What about Math 103 with Econ 55D, along with 2 power of ideas focus classes?

Is it going to be impossible to get into Econ 55. I have the last scheduling day.

Tell me something good about Bell Tower. Why does everyone say that everyone hides in their rooms just because it is air conditioned? That sounds bleak.

Umm…can someone answer the Brown Hall question? What’s it like?

Belltower is the newest and most comfortable dorm on east. Some say it’s comparable to a 4 star hotel. The thing about everyone hiding in their rooms is that because it’s AC, there’s no need to hide in the AC common rooms so people apparently tend to not interact as much. Idk how true that is, I lived in Aycock and hung out in the common room all the time.
