Quick question about Wilson - are all floors suite-style, or are some parts of the dorm hall-style as well? Quite a few people I know in Wilson have room numbers followed by a letter (i.e. 214A), but I just got a plain old number without a letter. Does this mean I’m not part of a suite?

I’d also love to know more about Wilson if any of you have lived in it. :)

I ordered mine from WalMart’s Site-to-Store service, so it got sent to the store in Durham and I picked it up once I got there. They hold it for 21 days I think, so you have to time the ordering correctly. (Also beware, because one of the items I ordered from Site-to-Store never showed up. My credit card was refunded but without an explanation.)

150 sq. feet is a pretty roomy single, so any standard minifridge would work. As per Duke regulations, it must be 4 cub. feet or smaller.

I brought fans from home just because I didn’t want to risk moving in without fans if I couldn’t find them in Durham. You probably can find fans SOMEWHERE in the Triangle though. Also, I don’t think window fans are allowed. For a single, one or two fans should suffice. Vornado fans work really well.

FedEx and UPS come straight to your dorm room. USPS is sent to the postal office below the Marketplace and you get an email when a package arrives.

One more question: I heard that French (and language classes in general) at Duke is not worth taking because it’s a lot of work and the professors aren’t too great. Is this true? I hope not because I am pretty good at French.

Has anyone taken Econ 49S with Weintraub? Or any thoughts about Weintraub as a professor? I thought it would be an interesting class to take to fulfill my Social Science credit at Pratt.

Not usually, I can probably count with one hand the number of times I’ve done that in my four years at Duke.

I should probably qualify by saying that most of my classes were science/math/engineering classes that used big hardcovers. Maybe for some humanities you might need to bring novels/books to class.

@331- You may not need the textbooks for the classes, but you may have some with you because you’ll be working/studying between classes without going back to your dorm.

It appears that for pre-med, you have to take two semesters of English, one of which is Writing 20. If you have AP credit for an English course (I took AP Lit this year and will hopefully get a 4 or 5 on the exam), does this count as one semester, or do you have to take your second semester English course at Duke?

Ok so I was creepin through a math thread from earlier this year and someone said that if you have credit for Calc AB they won’t let you take Math 31?!?! Is this true? I was planning on taking 31 and then 32 b/c I don’t remember anything from AB.
