Duke University Class of 2025 — Regular Decision

Some schools had really insane numbers though. Yeah, I get it that more courtesy could have been involved in all this. I’m with you on that point, because it’s especially annoying. Having visited and lived in different areas of this wonderful country of ours though, I also realize that politeness, putting others before yourself, and general concern for another person is somewhat relative to location. (Oooops! Did I just say that?) That’s probably why we live in the woods and only come out when we have to. (Yes, this was a joke, sort of.)

Thing is Duke did a great job of handling COVID last fall, much better than a lot of other schools. They were one of the first schools to do aggressive testing so they could bring kids on campus in pretty high numbers. And from all accounts the student community was pretty good about following rules and trying to keep the case count low.

They (as a community) dropped the ball with this Greek thing, however.

what day will we hear back by?

they’re saying mid-april :frowning:

I still hope 4/1 based on this reason:

On a rej streak of 5 Duke is almost my very last hope like Ik I won’t get in but still love ya…

they say “late march” in the portal so I would assume sometime in the next 5 days.

someone on reddit said a higher up AO said April 5th bc they are running behind

Well if this is true then they have mismanaged this significantly compared to the Ivy leagues and other elite colleges. There’s been a total lack of communication. It says they’ll let us know something late March on their website and the original application confirmation email said we would have decision by April 1st. We have received nothing since then.

My son was deferred from ED. At the time, they had not asked for any updates for financials. But this week, he received a request for more specific financial information. This was not an automated message. While it said, this is no indication of admission, it requested a prompt reply. What do you think this means?

I think it is not a definite yes or no but, it is probably a very good sign.

I don’t know where they got their statistic, but I remember reading this article that confirmed what they said.

The article generically says ‘studies show’ but doesn’t cite anything. From a research/statistics standpoint I don’t know how you would even measure that (what metrics, population, data source, etc). I’m calling BS. You’re obviously free to believe what you want though.

First of all, that article is more than 6 years old. Schools have made a LOT of changes, secondly even in that article it says it was more prevalent at certain schools, and often not in many fraternities. One bad “egg” doesn’t make all Greek life bad and people definitely should not label them as such. The public shaming that some get is really sad. There will always be bad eggs, but there are plenty of good ones too.

I never made a statement on the article’s validity. I was just providing a source of where the statistic came from as per the request of the other person. Let’s try to keep the forum on track when it comes to information. Thanks.

Yes thank you I should have tagged the original person who made that first comment.

Would love to keep it on topic, however I wasn’t the one who made the ridiculous blanket claim about all Greek life being bad.

If the article isn’t valid then it probably shouldn’t be used to support a specific statistical claim. I agree, this thread isn’t about greek life, I’m not sure why that was even started. Time to move on.
