To change the subject back…My son was deferred from ED. At the time, they had not asked for any updates for financials. But this week, he received a request for more specific financial information. This was not an automated message. While it said, this is no indication of admission, it requested a prompt reply. What do you think this means?
not a bad sign. can only be something good, especilly if they are asking this late in the process
Sorry… I didn’t see this is posted before, but can you walk around campus right now?
hey guys,
I just found out that one of my teacher’s who wrote me a recommendation letter wrote a name other than mine by mistake, it happened only once. the rest of the recommendation has my name. will that affect my chances of getting in?
Something similar happened to me for Haverford. I was admitted a few days later. I would say its not for sure but it is good news.
Yes. My son and husband did it on Wednesday after our visit to UNC. There are a good number of people walking around. Someone let them into one of the buildings, I can’t remember which one and the bookstore is open also.
My guess is nothing, as Duke is need-blind.
But would they even bother gathering so much info for ALL applicants? Seems like A LOT of wasted time.
At a need-blind college, wouldn’t financial information only be used to calculate your aid package AFTER an applicant been admitted (or waitlisted)? Admissions would still be need blind, then they send it over to fin aid. Who knows. Hoping its a good thing!
My daughter was accepted to a need blind school two years ago. They do the financial aid stuff for every applicant since the left doesn’t know what the right does. Then when your kid is then accepted you don’t get your package at the time of acceptance you get it a few days later so those who are not accepted don’t get it. I assume after ED rounds there is less of a pool to give out than they have during RD so that may play a factor as well. It may be good news, but I certainly wouldn’t overthink it and get your hopes up.
When are decisions
I think a lot of you are getting “need-blind” colleges wrong. Need-blind only means that financial need does not influence admissions at all. However, admissions can still pass on info about admitted students to financial aid to help them out. While it’s true that financial aid often starts packages for most applicants, they may not finish packages for rejected students, especially as it gets closer to decisions. This year especially with higher applicants, many applicants’ financial aid checklists are not as updated as others. It doesn’t end up meaning anything for some colleges, but for example, financial aid update indicators were correct for Dartmouth 1-2 years ago.
I reckon ivy day lol or the 5th…
It shouldn’t. Kid’s school uploaded the wrong LoR and sent it to everyone. they corrected it. They understand, it might even make you memorable. Friend at a similar college who works in PhD admissions says it happens more than we know.
Can’t speak for Duke, but where my daughter attends it was made very clear they are two very distinct departments and do not work hand in hand and that financial aid packages are in fact completed for every single student that applies for financial aid whether or not they’re accepted. My comment was based on that personal experience.
The college the student applies to does NOT know who applies for financial aid and they want to keep it that way. I would assume Duke does the same, but perhaps I am wrong based on what you are saying. This year we did not apply for Financial Aid so am not dealing with any of that bs this time.
So should i contact the admission or have my teacher contact them?
The advisor contacted the schools to correct it. But friend said “no school would hold it against an applicant”
Tell your teacher that you forgive them. They are probably overworked and very embarrassed to do that on accident! Also, the colleges respect the teachers so I’m sure this happens from time to time.
The waiting is giving me anxiety
Me too. It’s a struggle to focus on anything else.
