Too bad I probably won't be receiving any financial aid b/c my family's income is way over the mark. (Rewarding those who are less successful? Go figure.)

i feel the same way, testace.

they give 20,000 to one person but make another person pay the full 45,000, just because they have an income that might be a little bit higher. Still can't afford all that, plus siblings, plus medical school. It's insane.

If they have all that money to put in grants...why not lower the whole cost for everybody down to 35,000 or something?

I've hijacked my own thread quite a bit. haha.

anyways, I got a "real" likely letter today!!! (the one they give to 350 applicants) yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

if you don't like the price tag, they're always state u

testace - They are not "rewarding those who are less successful." They are helping those who otherwise would have no means of attending. If your family's income is "way over the mark," then you can afford it, some way or another. Quit whining.

Yeah, I agree with that too.

"if you don't like the price tag, they're always state u"

If state u were the option we were particularly interested in, we wouldn't really be in the Duke forum

I have to confess I'm a little shocked at some of the statements coming across here.

Duke is trying to craft a school where people don't have to worry about the price tag. Yes, it's always going to be a lot of money, but students who actually can't afford it rather than students who merely don't want to will get the help they need, so that they can trust that Duke isn't just a school for rich kids.

It's about access. It's about building a school that can attract the most qualified kids regardless of their ability to pay. It's about making sure that all families can afford Duke, even if they are annoyed by the money they have to pay.

Seriously.

Thanks for clarifying, bluedevilmike. I guess we have less than two months to decide if Duke is worth all the money. But Duke is awesome!

Amen, blue!

to those who got the Up Close invitation are not being considered for a scholarhip. I got it todaay an my heart fell.

SWEcurious, Oh well, Let's consider it an honor just to be accepted early to Duke. I have friends out there who would gladly be in our spot.

Question about Duke Up Close:

I got the "likely letter," then the e-mail inviting me to the program, and then the postcard inviting me to the program. They all say to register on the admissions website "The D" and there will be a link waiting there that allows me to sign up.

I registered on the admissions website on Saturday March 4 and the admissions website STILL does not have a link to the registration form for Duke Up Close. What to do....

call the number they gave you and if the person's not there, leave a message with your name and phone #. That's how I got myself registered.

how many CCers are actually going?

Some of us are Duke students and will be here no matter what. :)

I'm going to be a host...maybe for one of you?

I got in Duke, but If I got deferred from an early college, would it be a good idea to call the regional admissions officer and talk to them about how to make me an easy admit and tell them about my new awards or would it be too much bugging?

did anyone get an actual ticket yet?

I received an emailed eticket a week back from the travel agency.

I got a tentative itinerary. I replied saying it looked fine and that's the last of any contact w/ them.
