For Mech Engineering. I'm on the waitlist at duke for now but i have berkeley and carnegie with me. what to do? Is Duke better than Berkeley or CMU?

For engineering, Berkeley is significantly superior to Duke.

^^ hmm ranked higher doesnt mean its “significantly superior.” those us news rankings and stuff have to do with the size of the engineering school, # of majors offered, ect. duke only offers four majors, thats why youll find it so low on the list. in terms of being recruited for top jobs in the nation? duke 100 percent (especially if your biomedical - duke is top 2 in the nation). i guess im just saying theres a reason why youve been accepted to UCB and CMU, but got waitlisted at duke. duke is more competitive, and top companies know that. also, duke is only behind HYPS in terms of sending the most kids to top grad programs. take that for what you will

To be honest, for anything other than BME, Berkeley looks very good when compared to Duke academically speaking.

If you want to major in mechanical engineering and become an engineer (which is probably what you’re thinking), Berkeley hands down. If you want to major in mechanical engineering and do consulting/finance, then I think Duke would be a good choice. More than 50% of MEs at Duke go into investment banking/finance/consulting firms, etc.

Having said that, clearly Duke gets great students and faculty for its engineering programs, so you’d be well-prepared for a career in engineering if that’s what you choose. But Berkeley is much more renowned for its engineering overall and has a larger scope than Duke, so I’d think that Cal would be the good choice all else being equal.

Guys i got accepted to DUKE after the waitlist! where to go? too confused. I’ve visited Cal and loved it but not been to DUKE so no idea. I’m from India and looking into ME. Please give some opinions and thoughts.

Thanks

If you are going to pursue a PhD in engineering after graduation, Berkeley is the better choice.

If you plan on going to law school, medical school, or finance/consulting, choose Duke.
