Ok, so its between these three. I want to go into business, so economics at Chicago or Duke and business at Georgetown. Duke is great for banking on Wall Street (Goldman Sachs #1 recruiter), but Chicago is world renown for economic study (but from what I hear better to get a job on the West Coast, not as much east). Georgetown seems to be doing horribly in their business school, so I would need some real convincing.

Right now its Duke, then Chicago, then distant Georgetown. But I want some input.

Btw, I do want to have fun, get a great degree, and enjoy college, not study like a feign all of the time. So your thoughts?

Chicago is not that bad when it comes to “studying all the time” don’t buy into that myth. I would visit both Chicago and Duke because it is about fit more than anything. Duke is in a southern state, the weather is much nicer, but the culture is different, also Duke is not nearly as diverse as Chicago.

U of Chicago is in the city and everything is accessible via public transportation. The campus is more diverse and there are some great internship opportunities in a city that relies on banking.

Personally, I would easily choose Chicago, unless Duke offered SIGNIFICANTLY more money.

You’re kidding, right? Take some time to research before you post nonsense.

Chicago
Asian(-American) 17%
Black 8%
Hispanic 12%
Native American 1%
Pell Grants 11%
JBHE rank #26 (!!!)

Duke
Asian(-American) 27%
Black 10%
Hispanic 7%
Native American 1%
Pell Grants 10%
JBHE rank #1

I’m biased toward Chicago simply because it offers my major and Duke doesn’t, but if I were you, I’d pick Duke in a heartbeat. Chicago can be fun for the right kind of person, but Duke is much more fun in the traditional sense.

Friend who transferred from Duke to Chicago said the schools where two totally different places…

I’m not sure how it could be a hard choice. Both are top choices for what you want to do, visit the schools and go with the one you like. These are two very different schools.

actually screw trends and what you think could help you. stats are crap that’s what i say go to the school you love the most and to hell with everything else.

“when you do what you love the money will come”-oprah

@ Phead128 - The decision was hard because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go into finance or academia. If I wanted Wall Street, Duke (which I chose), but if I wanted the phD, Chicago. It was tough because it was a fork in the road of life. However, both could produce either career path. Duke seemed to be more fun, sports, spirit, and social experiences. Chicago was too academic.

@ BananaSandwich15 - Ironically enough, you told me to go to Georgetown, yet gave me a quote from Oprah, who did the Duke commencement this year. Kind of creepy lol.

If you’re that concerned about i-banking jobs go to Duke. If you want to enjoy Chicago to its fullest you need to be a real intellectual. The Chicago students I know really dislike people preoccupied with pre-professional concerns. G-town… meh.

Yeah, I saw Oprah’s Commencement speech at Duke. It really really sucked. lol. All she talked about was her God son who was a member of the Class of 2009 and how when he was a child, blah blah blah…

Oprah has done commencement at Stanford and many other colleges too :)
