Duke vs. Dartmouth

id pick dartmouth :D

Duke for pre med definately. Duke has an edge for engineering and a slight edge for economics and premed. For almost everything else I would lean towards Dartmouth.

Honestly all this “Dartmouth is better/ Duke is better” pre-med is nonsense. Just as Duke has its top primary care hospital, Dartmouth has Dartmouth-Hitchcock one of the best cancer hospitals in the US with C. Everett Koop actively involved. Truth is none of this matters. Both are easily among the top 7 schools in terms of med school and graduate school placement. There honestly is going to be ZERO difference in this area. I have friends who graduated and went to med school from both and they all ended up at exactly the same types of med schools depending on GPA/ MCAT.

Its all about fit. Duke has major sports, is bigger, is warmer, has some beautiful facilities (tennis center anyone), is closer to a town, is perhaps more “cliquey”, and is in North Carolina.

Dartmouth is more cozy, tightknit, has seasons, has more outdoor activity, is more undergrad focused like a LAC, has awesome study abroad, has sophomore summer (a big plus in my book), and is in the Northeast.

Choose which one you like more. For every person that says Dartmouth is better, you will find a person saying Duke. Both are right and both are wrong.

Totally agree with slipper1234…but I would still pick Duke

Duke 8th in US, 13th in World
Dartmouth 11th in US, 54th in World

Maybe I’m just biased because Dartmouth deferred then rejected me (Big Green A**Holes) and Duke said yes (thank you Mr. Devil)???

“It doesn’t factor into account grade inflation, the fact that Dartmouth might limit those who can actually apply to medical school by weeding out unqualified students”

This is ridiculous, grade inflation/deflation is a myth and no one coming out of Dartmouth is at a disadvantage when applying to med school.

These are both great schools. I would decide based on money and fit as in how you feel on each campus.

Agree.

However, most people prefer Dartmouth over Duke, just like the Revealed Preference Study showed in 2004 and again when revised in 2006. Don’t blame them. Durham is a dump.
