Duke vs. UC Berkeley NEED ADVICE PLS!!

Hi,
so I got waitlisted from Duke. and they called me today that they can give me an OFFER!!
i should be excited, but i don't know. i'm now in UC Berkeley. being here for my freshman year was not a great but not that bad experience. and i have a job and get familiar with the campus now. so i'm hesitating if i should transfer...

okay, so my concerns about duke are that it's not near a big city. so is it hard to find internship? and is the econ major good there? or it's better in berkeley?
if i stay in berkeley, i'll apply for the business school and double major in math, i think

should i go? i got a week to think about it... pls gimme some advice. thx (:

Why did you even apply to transfer if you’re liking UC-Berkeley?

Now, to answer your questions…

No, not at all. All the top firms recruit at Duke. 25% of Duke grads go to NYC after graduation. DC, Atlanta, Boston, and San Fran are also popular.

Yes, it’s good. Berkeley also has a great program. I’d say if your goal is to get a PhD in Economics, Berkeley is hard to beat. If your goal is to go to a top bank, finance firm, management consulting, etc. then I’d say Duke gives you the edge in recruiting.

Nobody can tell you if you should go or not. It’s completely up to you. Personally, I would only transfer if I was unhappy with my current situation or prospects. But that’s my general philosophy on transferring. If you like Berkeley, have friends, enjoy your time, and have decent prospects, why would you risk that by transferring anywhere? Berkeley is a high quality institution. If, on the other hand, there is something that Berkeley is neglecting to give you in some form or another and you feel like you need to change to a different environment, then Duke certainly is a great choice.

Congrats! I was offered admission from their waitlist, as well.

Did you get your financial aid package yet? They told me they would email it to me, but I haven’t received it yet.

Thank you for your reply.
i did kind of hate berkeley… because the people here and also the environment.
i feel like there are so many asians, which is a lack of diversity…
and also the public university is just not my thing, i guess.
but like now, i got work, intern in sf…i feel like it might not be that bad as i thought before.
so i really don’t know…

hi fantasyspirit,
congrats too!!
no i didn’t apply for financial aids… maybe they will mail you?

Thanks for everyone’s post.
So my decision is to go to Duke for my next 3-year college life.
i think i’ll enjoy it (:

Congrats on arriving at a decision - welcome to Duke and best of luck for your sophomore year. =)

How did you remain on the waitlist all the way through your freshman year?

i applied for transfer not remained on the list
