Duke vs UVA science scholar (in-state)

I went to Blue Devil Days for Duke and LOVED it. The people seemed nice and the opportunities seemed endless. However, I also liked UVA and the science scholar is a really nice perk, the people there also seemed nice and I know it's a stellar university. My parents have already paid off UVA with the VA payment plan, while Duke is 63k a year and my parents are already paying 60k for my brother's school. I'm having a hard time deciding between the too, any thoughts? I've also posted this in the UVA forum

If you’re sibling is in college and you still have to pay 60k a year, I’m guessing your family is rather well off. How much does money matter? There is a difference between UVA and Duke, and top consulting banking and other top science and engineering will be more apt to recruit and hire from Duke than UVA.

Thanks so much for replying. My parents can afford it, but I also have a sister going to enter college in 2 years. I personally know that I will put a lot of stress and pressure on myself because of how expensive Duke is, and I don’t want to be stress-crazed these next 4 years, I dealt with that enough in high school.

When your sister is in college, you should get some FA unless your parents are super well off. There is little doubt that Duke is a better school with better opportunities, but the extent of those depends on you and what your major is and other aspects

Your parents are paying $60k for your brother already. Aren’t you just as important as him? But, seriously, both are great options. I would go with where you think you’ll be happier.

I’m in the same boat. Uva engineering vs duke engineering. They are both super fun schools, and I know I can’t go wrong with either one. Still, I don’t have a clue which way to go. Your decision seems a lot easier because your parents have already paid off uva expenses. The idea I got from uva was that if you are in state, it is a no brainer. I’m in state for uva, but its tough to let go of a prestigious place like duke:/
