Sooo I was waitlisted at all these schools (which were all my top 3 schools saddening indeed). I am a URM (african american), grad a year early, and have legacy at Emory. I love all these schools and would not mind going to whoever accepts me off the waitlist (emory being #1, duke being 2, and vandy 3). My EFC is 0 so what is the chance I can get off the waitlist at, at least one of these schools? Also if I do get into Duke, should I go? Or wait for the other schools. My plan is go to whoever takes me first. I have shown interest in all of them (Compiled a portfolio for emory and sent it, called Duke and my nice ad counselor told me to call her April 29th send everything in she will she can do, Vandy I got someone who goes there to write a letter, emailed them and called.) I love Duke and Emory so I am hoping one of them take me off the waitlist, VANDY IS A-M-A-Z-I-N-G too so Idk i wish i got in one of these. Oh yeah I am a math major (if that matters and from north GA) wishing to go pre-med. Thanks

I don’t think you get a lot of time to ponder whether or not to accept a spot off the waitlist. Since it may be a small number that get called off any of the lists, you probably should take whichever one comes up first, and pretty quickly, or you may lose out on all three.

Any of the three will be great for you. I hope one of them comes through.

Thanks so much! And I guess that is my plan! I did everything I could now I just wait! I’m already excited for the school I got in but im still sad i didnt get in any of those schools… If not i probably will transfer. Is waitlist selection random (as in to fill in demographic, choosing majors, etc?) I hope not, when do you think I will hear back from (early May or late July?) Thanks so much Midmo!

As I understand it, waitlist selection will be determined according to a variety of factors, including the school (CAS, VUSE, etc.), possibly geographical factors, any other demographic factor that the university wants to see balanced.

Transferring may be a viable plan, but personally, I would give the first school a fair try before planning to move on.

They start to call people off the waitlist in early May, after decisions have been reported. It goes on until all the slots are filled, and that can be into July, I believe. You should follow the Vanderbilt admissions blog for more information about where the waitlist stands. They will announce on the blog when the waitlist is closed.

i know that at Emory if you stay on the waiting list and enroll elsewhere for your freshman year, you have a guaranteed transfer for sophomore year you might wanan call up emory and ask them tho…just in case

^^that is something new…I know that the waitlist letter says that you are welcome to “apply” as a transfer and that your app will be given priority; never heard of a guaranteed transfer though…
