Since Duke is a lottery school and it’s hard to exactly tell you your chances, I would say that you’re probably heading to Duke. Duke is HUGE on environmental stuff, so make sure to include this is your essay! Your APs are good, assuming that you got a good amount of 5s. The fact that you have been volunteering at the same place for such a long time also helps more than you could imagine. Your GPA isn’t really a huge problem, but getting it up to a 4 would be good. Your SATs are pretty good too. Are you planning to re-take them, or stick with your score. Also, have you taken any subject tests?

I will have to disagree quite a bit with @csrbs2 because the GPA is worrying, 5s on APs don’t matter, and you’re not “probably heading to Duke.”

You have a decent chance at Duke, thanks to your relatively amazing ECs. However, a weighted 3.96 isn’t great. What is your unweighted GPA?

Chance me? <a href=“Claremont Mckenna, Duke, Bucknell, Grinnell, UofR chances! - #31 by RaviOnIce - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/17638913

Sorry, I didn’t realize it was weighted. Taking that into consideration, then you will need to bump it up. Duke is getting more and more competitive everyday, and they have so many great applicants that just seeing you GPA alone they could easily fill your spot.

if my grades are really good during 1st semester of 12th grade, will that help?
