Duke with some debt, or Vanderbilt debt free?

Hi, I have a small dilemma.

I am trying to decide between Duke and Vanderbilt. I really like both campuses, but I have a slight preference for Duke. However, attending Vanderbilt would allow me to graduate debt free, whereas Duke would most likely leave me with about ~20,000 in debt.

I do not have definite plans for what my major will be. The current option that I am most interested in is microbiology and then medical school, but I am also interested in economics and english, and even possibly law school.

What would be the best course of action for me?

I think that $20,000 is a manageable amount of debt to incur for the stronger reputation of Duke and the greater opportunities that come with the name brand of the school and its financial resources. They’re both held in high regard in the South but Duke is known as a much stronger school elsewhere to be honest. It also has a top 10 medical school and a top 14 law school that you will get a small boost at if you go to Duke for your undergraduate studies.
