<p>I have few other good choices in hand, and I need help learning more about Duke!</p>

<ol>
<li>How's pre-med at Duke? biology?</li>
<li>What are some traditions/events at school besides Blue Devils games?</li>
<li>I heard Duke is big on Greek life. How is it? (I'm not so big on Greek life)</li>
<li>How would you describe the general atmosphere (academic, social, etc) there?</li>

<p>I can’t answer those questions, but I do have a few myself. Posting it here if anyone could answer it. </p>

<p>First, could you work at campus, and what kind of jobs? How much can you earn? </p>

<p>And second, I heard that Duke had grade inflation - is that true? How does that effect things when you apply to graduate schools? </p>

<p>Lol - I am wondering about Greek life too. The party scene and all that. XD</p>

  1. Pre-Med at Duke is extremely impressive. As you probably know, it’s not a major, but a course track that you take. A lot of students come into Duke thinking they’ll be pre-med, but end up switching to a different track - it’s pretty difficult! Biology is also difficult, but highly ranked. Additionally, pre-med students usually major in Biology, so the department has a lot of resources available for pre-meds.</p>

<p>2) Obviously, basketball is huge at Duke! Some of our other favorite traditions are LDOC, which is a big concert/festival held on the last day of classes, Joe College Day, a concert held in the fall, the Yule Ball, which is a dance that Duke Quidditch throws, and many more. It’s hard to list all of the events Duke throws, but I can guarantee there’s something to do every weekend! One of my favorite things here is Freewater Screening - every weekend, new movies (think King’s Speech, the Fighter, Harry Potter) are shown in Duke’s movie theater for free!</p>

<p>3) Greek life is relatively big here, but not in an all-encompassing way. Yes, the Greeks throw a lot of events, and there are a lot of Greeks on campus, but I can not stress enough that there are just as many independents! <p>4) The general atmosphere is hard to describe, because there’s so many different visions of what “Duke” is. A lot of people say our motto is “Study hard, play hard”, but that really only applies to people who choose to party. For me, I choose to go to movies, play board games, have Nerf wars, play Quidditch, etc. with my friends. There’s also a really intense study atmosphere, but like anywhere, your identity is what you choose it to be. </p>

  1. Yes, you can work on campus! There’s a variety of jobs - you can research with a professor, work in the library, work in any number of the administrative offices at Duke, etc. If you’re interested, you can check out dukelist.duke.edu for current open jobs! Pay varies from about 7 an hour to 11-14 an hour, depending on the specialization of the job, etc. </p>

<p>2) Duke does not have grade inflation. In all the classes I’ve been in, I’ve had to work pretty hard to earn my grade, and I always felt as if I earned it. Professors are great about working with you to make sure you know what quality of work you’re doing. </p>
