how much would sibling legacy help at gettin accepted to Duke?

Duke's admissions officer just spoke at my son's school and he said that if you are a legacy your application file will be read by two readers (as usual), and then if you're going to be rejected the app will then go to the alumni office for review. In the end, approximately 50% of all legacies are admitted. He also mentioned, though, that they do not lower their admissions standards for legacies, it just gives you a little boost over a non-legacy candidate with similar stats.

wow.... 50%?

You're surprised? Even Harvard's legacy admit rate is ~40-50%. :p

Everything blackeyedsusan wrote is correct from what I heard, but I don't know if a sibling legacy counts as much as a parent. Last year, the overall legacy rate was 46%. Since there are so many people with similar and competitive stats, legacy probably means a lot in the end.
