duke

I'm currently enrolled at a university ranked in the top 20. I applied to Duke early decision my senior year and was deferred and then rejected. I'm very unhappy where I currently am and really want to transfer to Duke. I had about a 3.75 in high school with 6 APs, a 31 ACT and leadership roles in many clubs and activities. Fall semester I received a 3.675 (2 A's, 1 A-, 1 B) in moderate to challenging courses. I am involved in a bunch of things around campus and was elected secretary of my dorm. I know Duke is the right place for me but I am getting more nervous to know if I'll get in as the semester goes on and I find I dislike where I am more and more. Thoughts? Do I have a good shot? What else could I do to show them how interested I am?

you could have a shot because of the economy (i really dont know how much, if any, effect this will have on enrollment), but i would doubt that you get in

generally, if you couldnt get in for freshman admissions, you probably won't get in for soph. transfer...it is certainly at least possible to transfer sophmore year, for example if you were right on the border, which you were, but had a great first semester at college...but your one semester at college is less than your hs gpa and im not sure being secretary of your dorm is going to really cut it in terms of ec's, even if you are a freshman...

essentially, if you werent accepted last year, you really need to show tangible growth as a student and it doesnt seem you have done so. i'd focus on the things that you can control now, mainly your essays...try to persuade them that you have grown and try to show them that you are an interesting applicant and have more potential than everybody else applying with your grades

best of luck

the gpa i got in high school was weighted... my senior I had one B and all A's which is about what I had my first semester of college.. I pretty much spent my junior/senior year trying to make up for my not very impressive freshman/sophomore year. also secretary is one leadership thing, i also am involved in 5 or 6 other things on campus im just part of the staff since positions are determined at the end of each year.

You dont want to go to Duke anyway. Trust me. I have a few friends there and they hate it. Sorry, but I cant be unbiased on Duke "We are better than everyone" University.

Are you sure it's not because you love UNC?

haha, TarHeelBound trying to give an honest evaluation of Duke.

Yeah, I can't be unbiased. Sorry. But I do know of some people that arent happy there but not every student is happy at every college. But just hear me out when I say:

People don't know how to party in Durham like Chapel Hill!!!
