hi i'm a junior right now, and i noticed that duke sponsors National Merit scholarships. exactly how much does duke give? also, does duke consider shown interest by listing it as one of the 2 schools for reporting service? thanks for any help.

someone please respond...

bump bump bump bump

I don't believe Duke even offers one and I don't think it matters which schools you put down.

Duke does not "sponsor" (ie, create) NMS winners as some schools do.

Rather, like the Ivies, Stanford and MIT, all its NMS winners have had their scholarships awarded by the NMS corporation and participating corporations.

Duke won't give you money, but NMSC will. They send the money to Duke, who then awards it to you (since you have to be enrolled in a college to get the money).

...I think. Don't yell at me if I'm totally off.

It is my understanding that Duke does not award any money for being a National Merit Finalists. You may still get money directly from the National Merit Scholarship foundation, but there is no guarantee that you will even receive one of those awards as they are very limited in number. Some schools offer quite a bit of money to lure National Merit Finalists, but Duke doesn't have to do that to lure the best students.

Duke does not give NM scholarships. S1 was a finalist and was sponsored by the corporation DH works for--they pay Duke $2,000 per year (different corporations award varying amounts of their choice), and Duke sends our son a check for that amount (which he then gives to us lol since we are paying the tuition!!). NM also sponsors some scholarships, but those only go to finalists who are not awarded NM money from the college they have chosen or from a sponsoring corporation that employs one of their parents.

Plenty of websites that will help you find all the schools that sponsor NM scholarships, and some are full tuition! Good luck!!

Duke doesn't give money for NM

But you could get full tuition through AB Duke Scholarship, but it is incredibly hard to attain.
