Dumb question. Oh well..

Are students required to repay the financial aid they receive from UW? Or is it really an "aid" and a "here it's a gift for you" thing? I'm still unsure.. Help? haha

Financial Aid for any college or university comes in the form of grants and or scholarships which do not have to be paid back, student loans which do, and work study which is money from an on campus job that is paid directly to the student for hours worked and also does not need to be repaid.

Thanks! That was greatly helpful but if anyone could confirm what 4safrontman said, that would be even more helpful and appreciated! Thanks!

I know people who get financial aid and it’s pretty hard for them to comprehend the first time. They’re always thinking “What’s the catch?” or “What did I do to deserve all this free money?”. I don’t blame them, it sounds too good to be true, but it is.

You guys, this financial aid is NOT a freebie. UW told me it’s a loan that MUST be paid back. ■■■

But, I’m still glad I don’t have to worry about money for now…

I think 4safrontman gave you the answer, your financial aid package can be made up of three types of funding (grants, loans, work study). It should be clear in the offer how it is constructed, if not, I would contact the financial aid office to make sure you do understand it.
