Dumb question

Hey, this may be a dumb question, seeing as how I'm applying to schools this fall, but when I actually am applying, would I want to apply to a BArch program or MArch? I obviously want to be come a licensed architect, so i know i will eventually enroll in MArch, but I'm just not sure whether I apply to it initially, or after I've completed BArch (like in a 4+2 program)

Thanks in advance.

most schools will either have a BArch or a BS/BA in Architecture

Only some schools have both (though i can’t think of most)

You apply to the School of Architecture in most colleges, though at some you just apply to the college or university.

If they have a BArch, you don’t need to get an MArch to be licensed, but if you have a BS/BA in architecture you do. For any situation, don’t apply to an MArch, because they assume you are a graduate student. Apply to the BArch or BS/BA in architecture.

Awesome, now would I want to apply in B.Arts Architecture or B.Sci architecture? Thanks so much for your help.

if i remember correctly, a BA means you take more classes outside of your major, where as a BS means you take the vast majority of you classes in your major. So i would say if you want variety than go for the BA, if you want to narrow in on architecture go for a BS. You may want to wait for other responses, but this is what I was told (though I went the BArch route)

just do a BArch (not a BArts in Arch or a BS in Arch) because it gives you just as much (if not more) architecture experience than a Masters of Architecture and allows you to get your professional certification. Plus, you save a whole year that you could be using to work or get another degree.

There are also 5-year M.Arch programs that you can enter immediately after high school.
