Duquesne Honors College

My DD was accepted into the Honors College at Duquesne. It sounds very interesting but I was wondering if anyone had any insight/feedback on the value of this program? How does it compare to the Honors program at University of Delaware? Thanks!

Our S was accepted into Duquesne’s honors program as well and we attended the preview day program in Feb. Not sure how it compares to U of Del, but we learned that the Duquesne honors has students take honors versions of UCore classes- which they say aren’t “harder” or more work, BUT different work. Actually less “busy” work. If students take more than the 6 required classes, they can qualify to become fellows and seems like some interesting opportunities with that. Early class registration is a perk, honors dorm living seemed to be nice - recently updated and very modern bathrooms. Best of luck to your student!

Thank you for the info! Since I posted, we went for a visit (last weekend). It was centered on the Business school but we did hear some nuggets about the honors program. Duquesne was not originally high on my DD’s list but we are taking a much closer look now given Honors, the campus vibe, the business school, and the proximity to downtown Pitt. Lots of opportunity there! Good luck to your son! Has he made a decision?

@carriebshopper Glad you had a chance to visit Duquesne campus and learn more about the honors program. Duquesne is a great campus in an awesome location in a great city with so much to offer! Our son has committed and will do the honors, but will most likely stay in dorms (towers?) with teammates as he’s playing a sport. Hope he can handle it all. Good luck to your D!

@carriebshopper I don’t know how Duquesne’s Honors College compares to UDel but I know UDel is highly regarded… My daughter ended up chosing Clemson Calhoun Honors over UDel Honors.

If your D is interested in honors colleges I would highly recommend ordering this book about public university honors colleges. Of course since Duquesne is a private university it is not included in the book but it gives you an idea of what the public university programs are offering as a way of comparison.

I understand there is a new edition coming out early October and you can email here to learn when it is available.

By the way live in Pittsburgh, graduated from Duquesne law school and know many kids that have gone there and the University itself is highly regarded. Good luck to your daughter.
