So last year (sophomore year) I decided because I could get an A in Honors Chemistry that it would be a good idea to take AP Chemistry as a Junior. I was completely wrong. Now I’m on the verge of a C in the class and there’s no way that I can drop it. Could anyone help me out by giving me some study tips or something that helped them when you were in the class? It is universally considered to be the hardest AP class available in my school.
I’m in AP Chemistry as well, and I think one of the biggest things that is helping me right now is reviewing the material before we learn it in class. My teacher actually forces us to do this by watching edpuzzle videos (she takes a video explaining the topic from online and then puts like questions in the video so we review the material as we watch the video) on topics we are learning the night before we learn them in class. Then she teaches the material the next day and it really helps it solidify in my head, because sometimes learning something the first time doesn’t always click. This way I’m seeing the material twice, and if I am still confused and I can refer to my textbook/class notes and review it again the night after I learn it.
I’m also in AP Chem. Review your notes whenever possible… The more times you read it, the more it will begin to register. Also, before quizzes and tests, try recopying important notes onto one piece of paper, so as to organize your thoughts.
These strategies have worked for me and might work for you if you give them a try.
I have had a 100 average 2 six weeks a row in AP Chem, the secret is to read your book and take your own notes, outside of teacher instruction. I treat my teacher’s lectures as complementary to my self-studying and the notes as a review. Also going into your teacher before/after school for help, and seeking a tutor could help you out. But this is doable, you can totally do it!
Thanks everyone. I feel like the notes my teacher gives are too simple and are radically different than what we normally see on the tests. Taking my own notes might work better. Do you recommend using a Princeton Review or Barron’s book to review chapters?
