The orientation website http://www.columbia.edu/cu/orientation/index.html says that we can't set up e-mail accounts, but if you go to http://www.columbia.edu/acis/tools/index.html one has already been set up for you.
Did any one else receive any info on this?

well, i just tried to create an account and it tells me that I can't until my activation code has been sent to me via US mail.

So I guess that although your e-mail address has been created and reserved, we are still not allowed to access it. I'm guessing we should probably receive the code within the next week.

ok, thanks...I tried it too, and realized this must be so (because I don't have an activation code either).

I just got an e-mail from a woman in the financial aid office, she said info about creating e-mail accounts will be snail-mailed next week.

Ewww, my e-mail address is funky. rj2240@columbia.edu

how do you know cabellero?

nevermind i found mine, its pretty funky too, dcp2109@columbia

< The key to accessing computer services and electronic resources at Columbia is your University Network ID (UNI). Every student, faculty member, and permanent staff member is assigned one of these unique identifiers, consisting of your initials plus an arbitrary number. >

Can we make aliases? (I think that's what they're called)

your alias is first.last@columbia.edu, I believe. . . . as long as there isn't someone else with the same name

John Doe's email would be jd2102@columbia.edu, but he can also use John.Doe@columbia.edu, J.Doe@columbia.edu...etc.

Achilleus, are those set up for you automatically, or do you have to do so manually somehow? Also, is there a way to create a new alias to point to your email account? (i.e. nickname@columbia.edu)

I was wondering that too; I don't like my e-mail address either(bti1@columbia.edu).

i like mine rap2116@columbia. edu, its pretty easy to remember...and these columbia people take forever to mail things...my summer program advisor supposedly mailed me my summer program information on thursday and she said the latest i would get this stuff was by tomorrow...if its not hear im gonna freak a *****!

my first.lastname@columbia.edu doesnt work i hate my email address

haha i'm stuck with eat as my initials, y'all can't complain

are the emails available for access now?

can everyone find out their email address from this site: http://www.columbia.edu/acis/access/secure/uni.html ?

because my name won't come up on the search...
