e mail....

when will we know what our e mail addresses will be? i want to give my friends my email address before i leave because it’s a lot easier to contact all of them at the same time right now

C12yourfirstname.yourlastname@usafa.edu

I don't think it will be up and running until you get your computer during transition week... not 100% sure on that.

c12firstname.lastname@usafa.edu but it won't be active until after BCT.

your to quick redhead

my full first name or just the first part. like c12john.smith@usafa.edu, or c12jonathan.smith@usafa.edu? jon is not my name by the way :)

oh, and is there some official source i can doublecheck this with? not that i don't trus you all, i just want to make sure

Haha! Sorry ds, what can I say? :)

If your name is too long, it will be shortened. One of my friends had his name shortened from Nicholas to Nick and then his last name was cut off a few letters. You never know. I would just wait to give it out if you're not 100% sure what it is... You won't really need to know that during basic. ;)

What about computer passwords? Are you issued one or can you use another if you register it?

Class of 2011 had fingerprint readers on there nifty comps... ;) No password

Well, not exactly. Due to the changes with the wireless internet in the academic building (Fairchild Hall), you guys will use your CAC card (your military ID, which has a chip on it) to log on to your computers. This is the way the rest of the Air Force logs on to their computers too.

Oh, and when we activated the CAC card login function for our computers, it deactivated the thumb print reader...we have to use a password for our CAC cards now.

It's not a CAC card, Falcons, it's a CAC. Amiright, comm squad? ;)

Yeah, but everybody refers to it as a "CAC Card". Might as well get used to calling it your albatross. (CAC = Common Access Card). I just call it my "CAC". As in "have you seen my CAC" or "I lost my CAC, I thought it was in my pants, but I must have left it at home." ;)

well, i'm not gonna lie..fingerprint identification on our laptops would have been pretty DANG AWESOME

Are the issued laptops pretty nice usually? What do you do with it once you graduate?

Yeah, they're usually pretty nice (ours cost over $2011) but they will be so beat up by the time you graduate that you will probably want a new laptop. You are granted an automatic loan to cover all issued items (including your laptop) that is paid off via deductions from your base pay, so it's yours to keep.

We will have access to our old e-mail addresses, right? Like I have an @yahoo.com account that I log on to by just going to yahoo's website.

Yup, you will have access to your normal e-mail once you have your computers.
