Hey all,

I'm in college and I need a letter of recommendation from one of my high school teachers.

The problem is I don't know how to write the e-mail. I want to ask a little bit about the class I was in and how the students were this year, but I also want to get her to write me that letter.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

well if you are asking the teacher for the recommendation, didn't you know them pretty well?
I just wrote to mine pretty casually... "Hi, Ms.insertname. How are you? This is myname and I haven't spoken to you in forever! How's the class this year blah blah?" then just go on with the flow and ask...?

Just cut to the chase and ask them. I hate reading all that fake bs.

It would be better for you to call the teacher, not e-mail the teacher to ask for that kind of favor. Call the school to ask when the teacher would be available for phone calls (such as during their planning period), and then call.

E-mails are easily overlooked, and, frankly, it seems cold to ask for that kind of favor via e-mail.

Be super polite about asking if they would be willing. If they are, include a resume and the information about what you need the rec letter for and the deadline and how/when you will pick it up.
