Hello guys. School just ended and summer is finally here, however I haven’t had the chance to ask any of my teachers for rec letters. Both teachers I was going to ask had the habit of leaving the classroom 30 seconds before the bell, and both came in a minute or two late, believe it or not, so I was never able to catch them at a good time to ask. Both teachers teach at two schools as well, so I couldn’t find them on an off period either. On top of that, I didn’t have the paperwork done I needed for letters in the first place, as I only just got them from my counselor a few days before school ended. Now it’s the summer, and I want to give these teachers the opportunity to write it at their own pace over the summer. Would an email suffice? I feel confident that both and them won’t feel disrespected or anything because they know me well, as one actually had me for 5 years already, but I feel that emails aren’t the optimal method for acquiring a rec letter… Should I compose a masterful email explaining my situation in a polite and slightly regretful manner while inquiring about a letter?
Why wouldn’t you? there was another identical post earlier this week-you might want to read that thread too.
Idk, people on this site seem to frown upon emails, even if it’s one’s last resort… they make it seem like the teacher will spontaneously begin to hate you if you even consider such “disrespect”. And I’ll check it out, thanks a lot!!
If you had asked this earlier I would have strongly suggested that you ask the teachers face-to-face during the school year if they would be willing to write you a positive recommendation – once the teachers agree to write your recommendation it would be easy to deal with the logistics by email later on or even in the early fall. IMO there was no need to wait for the paperwork from your GC to request a teacher recommendation. If the teachers are still in school this week I might email and ask to make an appointment to talk so you can ask them face to face. I would also ask if there is anything you can provide them to help with the recommendation (ex. a resume, list of ECs etc.). If a face to face discussion is not possible a well worded email will have to do.
