Just wanted to know how many EA accepted students are planning to commit to JMU and what colleges are in the running for you?

UA (Alabama) Honors
Clemson
S. Carolina Honors
U Minn. Honors
Colo. School of Mines
Drexel, SLU,

Likely UA, which seems like a good fit and the $ (Full OOS tuition +) tips the scale. At time of application DS was unaware of how few merit awards JMU had for OOS, and even at best, only covers in-state tuition.
Bummer though because JMU has all he wants and more, but not worth an extra $25K/yr.

I’m not making a commitment yet. As an African American, I definitely must attend CHOICES and get a full look at the University (I visited before). The lack of diversity does bother me a bit. The real reason why JMU is in the picture is because of its school spirit, the friendliness of the students, the amazing food, and the relationships students have w/ professors (Professors know students by name, not numbers!). Damn, I really wish it were more diverse!

The other schools in the running are UVA and Brown. Both schools are more diverse than JMU, though (so i’ve read), the different ethnic groups don’t frequently interact/mix.

I’m going to Choices, but I’m pretty committed already in my mind to JMU. It’s a hike, from Long Island, but it is the best all around choice for me. Penn State was my first choice, but too expensive OOS in the end, but JMU was always a close second, so I’m happy.

Daughter loved both Penn State and JMU. We are in-staters for Penn State-UP, so financially it is a much better choice for us - Almost flip side from your situation, Scoopie. We know a couple, one went to PSU, the other JMU, both still lovingly argue about whose school was the best experience and helped them prepare for a career. In listening to them, I believe you can’t go wrong with either.

Thanks for the recommendation. I feel the same. I know I’ll love the school, and I want to spend time abroad, and maybe do a Washington semester at some point.
