EA applicant: My interviewer said he will do everything he can to get me in

What Brave Ulysses says about the “quick first round” denial is true.
We had the admissions officer come to our school for a presentation and he gave us some insight to how the applications are read. Apparently, he says there are 2 committees: a preliminary committee and the specific college/school you are applying for. The first committee weeds out the candidates that are not typically within the GPA and SAT range of the normally accepted. The students that make THAT cut…will go to the Business College Committee, CAS committee, FSS committee, and so on.

Sad, but probably very true since the admissions officer himself told us this.

Without weighing in on your particulars, I will say this. As part of the interview report that your interviewer submits, s/he gives a rating on a 1 to 9 scale. Among students who receive a score of 9 from their interviewer, around 40% are accepted. Now it’s entirely an open question whether these students are accepted because of the good interview or give a good interview because they’re strong applicants, but either way, impressing your interviewer is a very good sign.
