qwerty: keep in mind this is about 0.67% of the EA pool, if you use last year's stats. if Axi is correct about this list being populated by the resourceful applicants of early action, then you should feel good that you're one of those few!

Ionno I actually filled out my app very differently. I mentioned that I attend a magnet math/sci HS but emphasized that if they were looking for a USAMO, ICHO'er, etc, I clearly wasn't the person they wanted (though i did make AIME's 3 years).

I really talked about how my passion shifted from math/sciences to economics during high school and how I embraced that change though i never expected it. I hope they are willing to take a risk with me and accept someone who on paper looks like they should apply to Wharton or Georgetown (lots of Model UN awards and stuff). =/ meh... i did submit an abstract tho- I applied to Columbia ED so this may all be a very moot point.

I think the more polite way to phrase that is that statistics comprise a generalization of observations about reality, but they certainly don't dictate future reality.

Now we just need to line up a million butterflies in Japan so that they can flap their wings towards Massachusetts, creating a gust of wind that knocks over and crashes the servers holding everyone else's applications...

you know what we have to do? Keep this list of people who applied early, and then have people mark on it whether they got in or not. That way we can compare the acceptance rate of CC MITers and the given rate of non-CC MITers. It would be an interesting study.

You can tabulate that data from last year's results -- there was an EA decisions thread and an RD decisions thread.

The problem is that there's a reporting bias. People who get in are disproportionately likely to announce that fact (even lurkers), while people who don't get in underreport. This fact would tend to exaggerate the effect of being on CC.
