EA as well as ED?

I have a question about early decision. If you apply ED to a school, does that mean that you cannot apply EA to other schools or simply that you cannot apply ED to other schools and you must rescind your applications if you ED school accepts you? sorry about the long post!

You can only apply to 1 ED but you can apply to as many EA as you want in addition to that 1 ED. But some schools like Yale for example have Single Choice Early Action, which mean you can only apply to one school as EA. But generally speaking unless a school says so specifically, you can apply to 1 ED and unlimited EA.

Thank you so much that is a big relief!

Boston College and Georgetown also say that if you apply ED anywhere, you cannot apply EA to them, but if you are applying EA only, you can apply EA to as many schools as you wish.

Read the websites of all the schools of interest very carefully to see all the variations and restrictions that are out there. And follow the requirements.

Really? That's unfortunate. I was think about applying EA to both of those schools, actually :( (As well as an ED)

Read the fine print of the ED binding agreement. If the college requests that you "withdraw all other applications" after being admitted, it's a safe bet they allow EA applications.

Some ED colleges specifically ban EA applications, however, like Brown.

Brown Admission: Regular & Early Decision

Most colleges post the rules of applying early action or early decision to them in their undergrad admissions section.

Thank you so much for clearing that up! I didn't know one could apply to ED and EA schools. Thanks again!

Thanks ivycmm, I'll make sure to do that when the time is right!

Whoa. I did not know Brown was doing this. What other schools have restrictive ED where they do not want even any other EA apps? Single choice Early Decision now? It is getting so complicated. Read the rules carefully on each school's early policies, and make sure they are for that current school year as things can change a lot from year to year.
