<p>I go to a private college prep school in MA.</p>

<p>Applying into Engineering:</p>

<p>SAT I: 2100 superscore (took twice) - 630 writing, 670 CR, 800 math
SAT II: Math IIC: 800
Gpa: 3.24 (see below)
Class rank: n/a
Senior APs: AP calc AB, AP physics C, AP spanish lang
No APs taken prior to senior year</p>

<p>ECs:
200+ hours of community service (yearly mission trip)
Mathletes
Varsity tennis (4 years)
Play tennis year round, avg 9 hours/week
JV soccer (2 years)
Travelling - spent 25 days in Spain this past summer with a host family
Interned(unpaid) at an engineering facility at MIT over this past summer</p>

<p>About the gpa:</p>

<p>I messed around freshman + sophomore years and really got my gpa into a slump. I started to exert myself junior year and received a 3.4 my first semester. Second semester I received a 3.74, and applied for 3 APs for my senior year. My senior quarter grades translate to a 4.02 (6 classes, lowest grade A-), although I don't think they convert the quarter grades to a gpa. I'm hoping that this strong upward trend will be convincing to colleges that my cumulative gpa is not representative of my intellectual abilities.</p>

<p>Colleges will most likely find you lazy, if you screwed up that badly both freshmen and sophomore year. Normally colleges can look past a bad freshmen year, but a sophomore year slump might not look to good. Especially since your 3.4 gpa junior year isn’t that great.</p>

<p>I’d say it’s a low reach, considering your gpa is pretty low by norteastern standards.</p>

<p>I know what you mean. I was a lazy student both freshman and sophomore years. Since then I’ve done my best to improve my gpa, but unfortunately it’s difficult to recover a cumulative gpa from a two year hole. </p>

<p>What I tried to convey in part of my essay and through certain teacher recommendations is that I’ve realized my past mistakes, and am trying as hard as I can to rectify them. I hope that colleges will be able to sense this as well.</p>
